The Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers 3-1 at the Verizon Center in Game 1 of this playoff series. The Rangers lead by 1 after the first with a goal from Carl Hagelin. The Caps dominated the second period, scoring 3, first through Alex Ovechkin on the Power Play. Marcus Johansson put them ahead with Jason Chimera clinching it with a third.
